How much power do you actually need?
You can’t just guess here. If you’re dealing with a tiny powder room (under 4m²), a 250W to 400W lamp is plenty. Go any higher and you’ll be sweating before you’ve even finished drying off. For those mid-sized bathrooms (around 5-8m²), we usually go with 600W to 800W. Then you’ve got the big master baths or those open-concept wet rooms. Those need the heavy hitters—1000W or more. Sometimes, it’s better to use a few smaller lamps spread out rather than one giant one, just to keep the heat feeling even.
The “Wet Room” Problem
Water and electricity don’t mix. Obviously. To keep things safe, we seal the connections and the quartz tube in IP-rated housings. But here’s a pro tip: don’t make the seal too tight. These tubes expand when they get hot. If there’s no room to breathe, the quartz can actually crack the first time you flip the switch.
Saving Energy (and your Circuit Breaker)
Sure, higher wattage means you feel the heat faster. But it also puts a lot of pressure on your wiring. If you plug three 1000W lamps into one 15A circuit, you’re probably going to trip the breaker. It’s a headache nobody wants. I always suggest adding a timer or a thermostat. That way, the lamp doesn’t just blast at 100% forever. Once the room hits that “just right” temperature, it dials back. It’s a simple balance. Get the wattage to match your room size, and you’ll save money on your electric bill without shivering through your morning routine.
